“My Hive” here has a new look as of a couple weeks ago! I mean, even down to the actual hive up there — notice that fourth little bee?? (Chloe!) But cuuue the bells and whistles. For real, though. I migrated from Blogger to WordPress, and it’s like I moved from a cookie-cutter condo to a custom-built home, especially on the backend. I knew that migrating my blog to WordPress would be the right move to make eventually (I used WordPress when I helped run The Small Seed, and the platform is leagues above Blogger) but I didn’t expect I’d make the jump in the last month, or that I’d love the end result so much. I worked with pipdig on the blog conversion (they were awesome; I highly recommend), and then spring boarding from a pipdig theme, I’ve customized the look of my blog, creating everything that you see. The project has taken my spare minutes for the last month, and man it feels good to have this new online place to call “home.”
My main motivator for the renovation was my design work. I needed a landing page for my work, as well as a “Services” page to give prospective clients my 411. I’ve spent the last year-and-a-half branding and consulting startups and small businesses, and it’s become a legitimate side business for me. From spreadsheets and contracts to re-investments to hiccups and successes, it’s been a really happy entrepreneurial ride. I’ve loved everything about it.
Upping my photography game has been another focus of mine in 2019, and creating a landing page for my photography work was another goal for my blog upgrade. I like to open up shop for photography each fall and take others’ photos for Christmas card season, so I needed a reference page for potential clients to catch my photography vibe. I took another photography class last spring in order to improve my skills — this one was from Brittany at Reality and Retrospect — and wow, if you want to take life with your DSLR to the next level, take her class. It’s worth every single penny.
Creating things, man…we were born to do it! Life currently has me making babies, business brands, and beautiful photos. Makes me happy. 🙂
As always, thanks for being here, friends. I love sharing my life here, and sharing life with you here. Whenever you’ve stopped by, no matter how long or short your stay, thanks for coming.
xoxo
