TRYING

Trying.

Moving.

Doing.

Something.

I’m trying so hard to create here again – to photograph, write, share, and connect. But sheesh, it’s hard to make the time to swap out my locked-in, Mom hard-hat for my clever, soft-top Creative cap. I am on the job site as a mom 24/7 (I was up in the night – literally! – with my three youngest babies at two different time just last night). Without outsourcing my house and my girls and my Duke, I don’t have time to be anything other than a hard-hat-wearing mom. But my soul needs to wear my Creative cap. I’ve waited too long for good, clear-cut time and easy circumstances to create again, and after two years of sitting in the waiting room, the perfect circumstance to do what I want and need to do have not magically come (and newsflash: it never will).

And so?

I’m trying!

I’m moving and doing something, taking photos and writing here and there, literally for mere minutes at a time.

For example? Last week, Emmy and Chloe had a hour-long tennis lesson, and rather than squandering the time as I waited for them, I packed the laptop before leaving the house and I wrote in the car as they played. Not a novel thing to do in the grand scheme, but it was a big step for me. That choice defied the claim the brain can make that we need our circumstances to be just right in order to move ourselves in upward directions. For 45-minutes, I brain-dumped and goal set and wrote in the car – click click clicking on my keyboard as fast as I could. Then, happy, I dashed out to the courts and watched my girls play for the last 15.

I tried. I moved! I did something. And for me right now, something is everything.

Are you like me – a woman who wears hats? Do you have roles and purposes in multiple spheres? My guess is that you are, because women in 2026 can collect all the hats, and since we can, we do (aren’t we so blessed to say that)! Besides that, though, I think you’re a woman with a few hats in your wardrobe simply because you are an incredible woman. You are a vibrant, multi-faceted, amazing woman, and before donning your current, most-dominating hat – the Mom hat, the Corporate Hat, the Volunteer Hat, the Tired Hat, the Anxious Hat, the Sister Hat – you were you. You are you! You’re the same girl that you were at 17 – the one with hobbies and interests and wicked talent – and that You Hat? It is a hat to be worn!

Actually, that hat has to be worn. For our own happiness and health, and our families’ happiness and health, our “You Hats” have to be worn, even for mere minutes at a time.

Want to shake up your hats in 2026 and wear your hat with me? I’ve talked about my Creative cap here, but what is yours? Maybe your talents are already getting put to good use, so maybe your practical hats need to be worn this year — maybe your soul has been nudging you to initiate new friendships, to actually exercise, to really organize your house or to finally start therapy? Whatever hat you know you know that you need to wear, I officially (hear the trumpets blaring here, sister!) give you permission to wear the hat, even for mere minutes every day. You can do it. Try! Move. Do something.

Something is everything.

My two girls post-tennis! They were so happy, which was the sweetest thing. IYKYK that tennis just treats you right (heads up  2026, I’m swapping out my hats for my ol’ tennis visor, too)!!
