Today was the day! We found out our baby’s gender and we told the girls…

IT’S…
Olivia is going into shock, Claire can’t look, Emmy is happy, Chloe is the still-somewhat-confused baby…

A…
now Olivia is actually shocked, Claire is just letting herself barely peek, Emmy is beaming, and Chloe’s still confused…

BOY!
Smiles all around!!

To say that we’re shocked and excited is an absolute understatement. We’re having a baby boy!!!
We kept the reveal pretty low-key — actually, for the first time since having Olivia, Ryan and I found out the gender in the ultra-sound with the doctor which was a blast. Ryan was so convinced that we were having a fifth girl (the odds were just *kind of* in a girl’s favor), and his confidence convinced the girls and me, too, so our jaws dropped when the doctor pulled up that cute, beating-heart little baby and told us that baby is a BOY.
“What?! No way,” said Ryan.
“Yep. That’s a loud and proud boy, Dad,” said the doc.
“No way!”
“Yes, Dad. That’s a boy!”
“No way!”
I was belly laughing at Ryan’s total shock, which made the ultra-sound wand and the baby wiggle all over the place, so I pulled it together as Ryan and the doctor started laughing, too. We rushed home to tell these cuties who grabbed their own “babies” for the little party, the cardboard box they decorated themselves, and all of their stoke to see whether pink or blue balloons were going to float up out of that box and into the sky.

And oh baby, those balloons were BLUE!
He’s a CUTE little bump of a baby, and oh how I love him so!! I could’ve been an all-girl mom for the rest of eternity, I love the dynamic of girls so much, but in the end I think I’m getting the best of both worlds here: we’re an all-girl family with one little prince. 🙂 I’m so thrilled to have a cherry-on-top-boy for a few reasons. The age gap between Chloe and Baby Boy is bigger than our other age-gaps (all four girls are two-years apart), so I’m relieved that we don’t have to figure out the dynamics with having an “outlier sister.” I’m also pretty thrilled for the mother-boy relationship. I’ve heard that it’s beyond special, especially when there’s just one boy for the one mom…supposedly they make quite the duo (cue the butterflies). And my heavens, the thought of having a mini Ryan makes my heart SOAR. Ryan is the best person I know, and to think of him raising a boy in this big world – and to think that a little boy gets to have him for his primary example! – just melts me. I cannot wait to watch those two grow!!
I’m due in September, so from here on out, it’s just playing the growing game. And if this pregnancy is anything like my last one, oh I’ll be GROWING, ha! So so grateful for that and for this sweet baby boy. Oh how he is LOVED!
