Is there anything as celebratory and victorious and mind-blowing as your baby's first birthday?

After doing this dance three times, I have to say, I don't think so.

You know "all the feels" of motherhood? They all coalesce on your baby's first birthday. Every high from the last 12 months is as blatant as can be. Your amazing baby is big, she's happy, she can wobble-walk, and baby talk. Her personality is bursting at the seams, showing you that so much of her sweet soul really did come pre-packaged, and that you really won't have to do that much to keep her shining as she keeps growing. Then all that said hits you like a ton of bricks: she is big! She can basically walk and kind of talk?! What happened to my baby!! Time, you thief, you stole her away. Give me back that sleepy newborn child. She can't grow up on me...

I tell you, all the feels.

After doing this dance three times, though, I can say that while you're never get your baby back, your child absolutely gets better with age. That bursting personality will never stop popping in the best ways. You'll experience more and further shoot down your roots, because love really is what you go through together. So will be the story with my Emmy, because that's what it has been so far. I'll never forget that unbelievably chubby, perfectly squishy, strong-spirited baby...honestly I miss that baby more than my others. I'd love to go back and give her more of a chance -- to give her more of me being Me and much less of Jeni being stressed. But it's okay. We grew a lot and together, Emmy and me. Her first year of life has been an incredible gift, and that girl's beautiful soul is going to keep on giving. Especially to her mama. ๐Ÿ’›

Okay now that I've literally cried over here, haha, how about I write about what I sat down to write?  Emmy's first birthday bash was a dream come true for that girl. The theme was "A Dog Party! A Big Dog Party! Big dogs, little dogs, black dogs, white dogs..." you know those last lines from Dr. Suess' book, "Go Dog, Go." They popped into my head last week when I was thinking about the kind of party I could throw my Emmy. Sis is a dog LOVER, so it all only felt right to top her cake with a furry friend, share some cupcakes with her people (Olivia and Claire painted the paw print cupcake toppers!), and best of all, invite some real live dogs to play. But really. I asked my friends with dogs to bring their pups to the party and they did!

ANGEL baby was the first doggy friend to show up...
 Then came REEF.
Look closely -- that face!! EMMY. Quit it! ๐Ÿ˜
 Cake break real quick --
One-year-old Emmy hasn't had a bite of legit sugar in her life, and yet when it was finally her time to shine, she didn't put a BITE of that cake in her mouth. Just smooched it to bits. HA!
Alright back to the dogs (Emmy's on the prowl)!
LOUIE showed up...(and yes, that's a band-aid on Emmy's leg from her getting her immunizations that morning. Sis was tough, per usual!)
 And then back to REEF...
And that, my friends, is where we all died as Emmy's puppy-loving dreams came TRUE. Just she and that regal Reef. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’ฅ
Daddy, Mom and Emmy took the traditional kissy-cheek pic for the first b-day...
 SQUISH.  Sorry Emmy. ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐Ÿ˜‰
What a dog party! It really was the perfect first birthday for our sweet one-year-old. She was serious about and simultaneously screaming over those dogs, she schooled her cake (still can't believe she didn't take a single bite!), and she was surrounded by people who absolutely love her.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, beautiful girl. We love you, Emmy! Our lives would be so incomplete without you and everything that you are. Cannot wait for eternity together, Sister. It's going to be soooo good!

Mama + Dad and Olivia + Claire (off playing at the park ๐Ÿ˜Š)
And as a PS, her invite (I get such a kick out of coming up with these things for my girls b-days!)
