I've come to realize in the last year or so that I'm not very good with conventional traditions. Like I don't have a slew of Christmas must-do's (ginger bread house making, caroling, all the good stuff). Nothing is in my arsenal yet or Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc. etc. I'm so not opposed, I just haven't yet found our family's niches when it comes to the big dog holidays. But for whatever reason, I do get super excited about the random days to celebrate, like the first day of Spring! Or the first day of February (why?? See, haha, that's the thing - I'm not sure)!

I'll have to figure myself out. Till then, here's the story behind this unconventional little evening...

Last week sometime, I pictured having a meal that was totally SPRING. Hard boiled eggs in honor of the new baby animals being born. Carrots in honor of the Easter Bunny. Peas in of honor new green jumping into action. Popcorn in honor of the blossoms popping on the trees.  I tossed in toast and fruit to round out the meal, and we dubbed the First Day of Spring our newest family holiday. :)
Including a specific shot of the toast because that LEMON CURD SPREAD to the right. Wowowow. If you live near a Trader Joe's -- get some.
Blossoms popping right before my eyes! ;)
Seriously, for the first time in my life, I prepped everything a few hours before show time -- so around 2:00 in the afternoon while Claire slept and Olivia and I had our time together. (I'm notorious for working hard and fast and well last-second -- that approach has its pros and cons). Olivia was a stellar assistant and an even better food swiper. Some of the pricer fruits, like grapes and strawberries, are still on our special occasion list (go student life!), so the girls loved the "delicacies."
After the food was ready to roll, Claire was up, we took off to Olivia's ballet class, and as soon as Dad came home we grabbed a few family pics for the books...
HA. Aren't we just so special?! Ryan's face in all of these kills me. He hates his life. Hahaha, like the middle one up there, especially. Actually, no, ALL of them convey so well that he is just pained.

Sorry for being obsessed, babe (kind of ). :)
LOVE my family and celebrating good ol' life with them. HAPPY happy happy Spring!!!
