We've been lodged away near Snowbird since last weekend, as we're being tourists in our own great state. To say it has been good to vacation with the Awerkamps is a big blanket statement, because in every little way, it's been great. Lots of playing, joking, and laughing, and the like - a household of boys is a blast.

Nature has always been a refuge for me - mountains, specifically, calm my mind and cleanse my soul. Yesterday I read this scripture that teaches why that is, as it details one function of our earth:

"All the things which come of the earth...are made for the benefit...of man, both to please the eye and to gladden the strengthen the body and enliven the soul" (D&C 59:18-19).

To please the eye and to gladden the heart.
To strengthen the body and enliven the soul.

To think that Heavenly Father created a beautiful earth for us, His children, to simply feel joy is a humbling thought for me. With our true well-being in mind, He designed the world to be peaceful and pretty just because He cares.

Sensing His eager care through the nature of a mountain is calming. Realizing how much He loves "just because" is cleansing of worries and fears. There is a peace in nature that helps me be still and know that God lives as my Father.

Heavenly Father is too good to me, really, so I'm working this week to be a better daughter for Him. How sweet it is to feel again - this time from the mountains - that He lives and loves us all.

  1. that's my favorite scripture! gorgeous photo!
